The owner of this single-family home in Carolina Meadows told me she wanted a garden not just for her enjoyment, but for the enjoyment of her neighbors.  The first two pictures are to the left of her entrance and the third and fourth picture is to the right of the entrance.  One of the challenges was to hide the utilities that could be seen to the right of the entrance.  A simple trellis and climbing rose did the trick.

The soil was amended with terra-sorb, worm compost, rock phosphate, and two-year compost from Finnabar. The roses, astilbes, gerber daisies, and goldenrod can be seen from her kitchen table and from the street.
